Had I known before, Lord!

would I have kept this abode thus?

How stupid of me! Had I known

That sweet moment of your arrival, Lord

A pretty carpet of

coral and jasmine petals

would have made

a feast for your eyes.

You wouldn’t come

After a long life’s wait

When least expected you are here

and gone away in a trice

Catching me unawares!

To keep you away here for ever

I can’t shackle your feet with my heart.
