TO THE UNKNOWN SEER

By K. S. ANANTA SUBRAMONY

Since the first dawn of Time beheld thee stand

The lowly prophet of the Truth proclaimed

By Vedic Seers bold, thou, unacclaimed,

Unknown, hast marched upon thy mission grand,

With torch of knowledge held aloft in hand,

Through trackless wilds of ignorance, and tamed

Avidya, fiercest beast; thyself, unnamed,

Hast brought undying name to thy great Land.

But lo! the paths thou didst illume dark grow,

Unguided in the wilderness we stray;

Now more than ever do we need the glow

Of thine own torch to light us ’long the way

Of Knowledge, Faith, Self-sacrifice, and show

How Night may vanquished be to yield up Day!
