The
Dream - Child
BY K. RAMAKOTISWARA RAU *
‘Triveni’ is now nineteen. She has come into her
own. This dream-child and foster daughter of mine has always shed Light on my
Path. She has been, to me, the Voice of the Silence. She has taught me to kill
out ambition, but to work like those who are ambitious. Blessed be her name!
I recall the day she was born–the 25th of December,
1927. The place was Malabari House, Paraswalkum, Madras. The owner of the house
had named it in memory of Behramji M. Malabari, the Editor of a great journal –
‘East and West’ of Bombay. That was a happy augury. Fourteen years later,
‘Triveni’ sought shelter in this beautiful city of Sri Jaya Chama Rajendra. She
was warmly welcomed at a P. E. N. function in ‘Maitri Bhavan’. The gracious
hostess was Srimati Sophia Wadia, Editor of another great journal from
Bombay–‘The Aryan Path’.
And now, after a further interval of five years,
‘Triveni’ is being crowned at the same dear spot, even as Sita, Princess of
Mithila, was crowned in the imperial palace of Ayodhya, after her exile, and
imprisonment, and ordeal by fire.
‘Triveni’s’ probation is over. There may be more
obstacles in her Path, but she will overcome them all by the grace of the Lord
who promises all travelers: “Fix thy mind on Me; and by My grace shalt thou
overcome all obstacles!”
There is yet another coincidence. Only a few hours
after ‘Triveni’ came into being, the Indian National Congress, meeting at
Madras within a short distance of Malabari House, defined Swaraj in terms of
Independence! By a strange destiny, ‘Triveni’ regained her status and came
forth, like Lakshmi out of the milky ocean, on the 14th of August, a few hours
before the memorable midnight hour when India attained Independence.
‘Triveni’ wishes to spread the message of Free
India to the world, sharing that privilege with sister-journals like ‘The
Modern Review’, ‘The Viswa Bharati Quarterly’ and ‘The Aryan Path’.
