‘TEARS’

By Dr. M. MANSINHA

(Rendered from Oriya)

Of all, my Lord, that Thou hast blessed me with

The richest are the tears born of sorrow;

And those too are mine offerings best, at Thy feet,

–A garland of pearls gathered from the depths of my heart.

Poor, helpless, ignorant and crippled,

Have I been of little use to Life;

Watching World’s misery in heart’s agony,

Merely have I shed tears impotent.

Flows out mine own agony in those hot little drops

Along with the sorrows of the World,

Those are my soul’s only prayer at Thy feet

–Those tears, hot, telling, ceaseless and pure.

Of those countless pearls culled out of my unmeasured

misery and offered to Thee

May I ever hope to get an account, my Lord?
