The
late Sri Katuri Venkateswara Rao, an esteemed
poet-friend of Sri Ramakotiswara Rau, described him most aptly as “a lonely
pilgrim pursuing the thorny path, with no protection against the scorching
midday sun, hoping yet that, at any moment, the shrine of the Goddess may burst
into view.” Having chosen the thorny path of journalism and launched the Triveni,
Sri Ramakotiswara Rau sacrificed his all and devoted his entire life for Triveni.
He was a martyr in the cause of Indian Renaissance. It is not for me to
dwell upon the rare and noble qualities of Sri Ramakotiswara Rau. Distinguished
men of letters, publicists and other beloved friends of Sri Rau have paid glowing
tributes to the departed soul. To them all I am highly grateful.
Twenty-five
years ago (in 1946)–declaring open the Triveni Press started by us–Sri
Ramakotiswara Rau blessed us that “Triveni Publishers should be publishers of Triveni
in due course.” And in 1950 I had the unique privilege of shouldering the
responsibility of publishing the Triveni. Since then (barring the four
numbers that were brought out from

week prior to his death Sri Ramakotiswara Rau wrote to me–
“I
have been receiving copies of the Triveni regularly. I rejoice to find
that you have made a superb job of it. The Gandhi Centenary Number is a
particularly magnificent one in appearance as well as content. You have
enlisted the goodwill and co-operation of the leading literary men and
publicists...In your case my hopes have been fulfilled. In your hands the Triveni
will reach the highest levels and be

was Mr. Rau’s Dream-child and he was very much worried about her future. I
derive consolation from his satisfaction that Triveni is in safe hands.

Triveni shed Light on my Path and flood the land with Love, Wisdom, and
Power!
