LONG LIVE ‘TRIVENI’

K. RAMAKOTISWARA RAU

Founder-Editor, “Triveni”

22-10-1894                 19-5-1970

The late Sri Katuri Venkateswara Rao, an esteemed poet-friend of Sri Ramakotiswara Rau, described him most aptly as “a lonely pilgrim pursuing the thorny path, with no protection against the scorching midday sun, hoping yet that, at any moment, the shrine of the Goddess may burst into view.” Having chosen the thorny path of journalism and launched the Triveni, Sri Ramakotiswara Rau sacrificed his all and devoted his entire life for Triveni. He was a martyr in the cause of Indian Renaissance. It is not for me to dwell upon the rare and noble qualities of Sri Ramakotiswara Rau. Distinguished men of letters, publicists and other beloved friends of Sri Rau have paid glowing tributes to the departed soul. To them all I am highly grateful.

Twenty-five years ago (in 1946)–declaring open the Triveni Press started by us–Sri Ramakotiswara Rau blessed us that “Triveni Publishers should be publishers of Triveni in due course.” And in 1950 I had the unique privilege of shouldering the responsibility of publishing the Triveni. Since then (barring the four numbers that were brought out from Hyderabad) Triveni is being published by me. When I founded the Triveni Press, little did I imagine that I would have to bring up Triveni. The Lord willed it so and He is getting His work done.

A week prior to his death Sri Ramakotiswara Rau wrote to me–

“I have been receiving copies of the Triveni regularly. I rejoice to find that you have made a superb job of it. The Gandhi Centenary Number is a particularly magnificent one in appearance as well as content. You have enlisted the goodwill and co-operation of the leading literary men and publicists...In your case my hopes have been fulfilled. In your hands the Triveni will reach the highest levels and be India’s topmost cultural journal. God bless you!”

Triveni was Mr. Rau’s Dream-child and he was very much worried about her future. I derive consolation from his satisfaction that Triveni is in safe hands.

May Triveni shed Light on my Path and flood the land with Love, Wisdom, and Power!

Long live Triveni and its illustrious Founder!

            Blessed be their names!
