‘LET THE SEA SPEAK’

Let the sea speak; but you be silent

Pouring out neither joy nor grief.

Great Pushkin grew silent at night

When the sea splashed by his foot.

Though the beach was crowded, though he let

The sea sing–not with its second waves–

Great Dante–indeed very eloquent–

Was silent when the sea was stormy.
