In My Father’s Name

BY M. S. GOPALAKRISRNAN, M.A.

In my father’s name I sing this song.

For peace to the soul of him

who loathed the littleness of man,

in tears I wash

the feet of gods.

What beauty is in breath

when it ceases to be!

Shattering a thousand bars,

it broke into a shadow

and moved beyond the walls,

sounding a thousand notes,

a thousand muted notes

of agony in the heart of man

where eternal secrets dwell,

into a mystic’s smile it broke,

and moved into the Sun.

What beauty is in man

when actions cease in him!
