Thou, my Lord, art eternally absorbed in the sorrows of creation;
How little indeed have I done to lessen Thy worries!
I have looked upon the miseries of the universe so far,
In distant indifference or patronising sighs.
Absorbed in mine own see kings
I have been deaf to the mute appeals of the distressed,
Arguing, “Whoever is there to look after my needs?
“Where is the place of appeal to redress my wrongs?”
Till I knew Thee, my Lord, my little complaints
Looked enormous to my cribbed little self;
But now that I have surrendered my Whole unto Thee
I wish I could share Thy burdens too!
I would fain carry Thy Cross in life after life,
If I had only the vision of Thy feet
Travelling before me along the journey!
