A GREAT FRIEND OF “TRIVENI”

In the passing away of Sri K. Balasubrahmanya Aiyar, Triveni has lost one of its revered friends and well-wishers.

Among the benefactors of Triveni the household of the great Sri V. Krishnaswami Iyer of Madras tops the list. Decades back when Gokhale asked for some help, it was said, from Sri Krishnaswami Iyer, Sri Krishnaswami Iyer sent Rs. 10,000 and regretted that he could not send no more at the time! That shows the type of man that Sri Krishnaswami Iyer was. The late Sri Bausubrahmanya Aiyar and his brother Sri Chandrasekharan and his sister Smt. Savitri Ammal have upheld the generous tradition of their great father and came to the help of many deserving public causes, particularly Triveni.

Sri Balasubrahmanya Aiyar was a great admirer of late Sri K. Ramakotiswara Rau, the Founder-Editor of Triveni. He presided over the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Triveni in 1954 at Bangalore. When I met him after the demise of Sri Ramakotiswara Rau, he was overwhelmed with grief and, after composing himself, recalled with great appreciation the early days of Triveni, its struggle and the heroic efforts of its Editor to run the journal. He assured me of his continued support to Triveni. But unfortunately God has not spared him for us.

Sri Balasubrahmanya Aiyar was a man of sterling character, of high thinking and simple living, a politician of liberal views, a great lover and patron of Sanskrit, an ideal Grihastha and one of the few of our old guard still surviving in our country and valiantly standing up for the eternal values of our culture. He was popular in the cultural and religious circles of South India and was loved and respected by all sections.

By his death Triveni has lost one of its great friends and strong supports. May his soul rest in peace!

Triveni conveys its sincerest condolences to his beloved brother, sister, his sons and to the other members of his family.
