The Beloved

BY SAHADEVA SURYAPRAKASA RAO

There's a pearly brilliance in her tears,

And, in their flashing light reflected,

I saw worlds and worlds of passion

My whole being, athrill with springs of love;

And all the thirst of my heart is quenched.

I saw unending glances tipped with love

Within the blue, blue depths

Of the gen'rous streams of tears

That flowed incessant from her eyes.

I heard the sweet, sweet melodies

Which love fondly, fondly sang through the tangles

Of the bluey wilderness of her hair.
