Love's Home-Coming
BY PATTUMARATTU-MOSI-KEERANAR
(Translated by P. N. Appuswami from the original poem in Tamil)
[A travelling minstrel tells a maid that her lover is coming home. She is overjoyed and is unable to believe her ears. And she eagerly questions the minstrel about it.]
Did you see with your own eyes?
Or heard you, perhaps, from one who saw?
The truth I would hear; oh tell it me.
So shall you have golden Patali
By the Sone, where white-tusked elephants bathe,
Tell me: from whose lips heard you
Of my lover's coming?
