Ay the Vel
By URAIYUR-ENICCERI-MUDA-MOSIYAR
(Translated by P. N. Appuswami from the original poem in Tamil)
O fair and gentle dancer!
With thine ears thou hast heard of his fame;
But seen him thou hast not.
If to see him thou art eager,
O glorious fair!
With thy fragrant tresses
Waving in the mountain air,
Walk gracefully like a plumed peacock,
And go to meet him.
He is bounteous like the rain,
Is Ay the Vel, the Lord of Chariots.
