THE GOLDEN MEAN
MOIN QUAZI
Rumi told us:
Life has to be an amalgam
An equal measure of body and spirit
Do for life now and hereafter
Like the village girls
Who dance their way in endless tattle
but won’t let the water pitcher rattle.
Buddha preached:
The true path of life is the Middle Path
Neither asceticism nor affluence.
The Greeks proclaimed:
The real philosophy lies in a golden mean
Neither too much nor too little.
The village girls sang:
Don’t strike the strings too hard
for they will break
Nor keep them too loose
That they won’t respond.
Who will show me the border
which divides the two worlds?
