SOLITUDE
Sodagudi Soloman
Solitude! I bid you welcome with my wholesome heart
And be you dear my inseparable part
From your undisturbed presence derive I indeed pleasure infinite,
And acquire knowledge utilising times every precious minute.
Every time I dwelt in you, turned my brain conducive to lofty thoughts
And could see through your pure serenity solutions to may rigid knots
Being an abode for peace and tranquility,
Instilled thou in poets, inspirations deep as could compose
exquisite lines of musical beauty
Often you are seen sitting in prison - cells, caves, forests and on sea – shores
And sullen wives and men cloyed with their marital life take to your course
In the cozy lap of yours, Lord Buddha had, wisdom dawned upon him
And devotes like Ramadas and Annamaya penned many a sacred hymn.
All sages in the great Indian mythology
Become so, having consigned to you their lives rosy.
Under your influence in prison - house, produced
Greatmen like Socrates and Nehru, works that can never to
nothingness be reduced.
O Solitude! I therefore consider you a gift granted by God
And with some unknown contentment to you do I sing this laud.
