ON PONDICHERRY BEACH
Mario Netto
Silver on blue,
Gold on foam.
Blending so fervently.
Just a passer by,
I gape and wonder -
Dare I stand and loiter,
Dare I throw away duties that wait?
If wishes were horses...
If I were queen...
Leaving blue and gold behind,
I sigh and carry on;
To fulfill the waiting duty
And hope that I may find reward
On shores that are not written by water alone.
