Man and God
R. Sundaresan
We see the white-hot sun,
unseen is the whiteness of truth;
we see a white lily,
unseen is the whiteness of innocence;
we see a dark cloud,
unseen is the darkness of sin;
we see the radiance of a diamond,
unseen is the radiance of a noble
heart;
we see the length of a rope,
unseen is the length of
ever-lengthening love;
we measure the depth of a lake,
unmeasured is the depth of the heart
of
a cunning man;
we see the green vegetation,
unseen is the lurking green-eyed
monster
in the hearts of people;
we see the beauty of a flower
unseen is the beauty of a spotless
mind;
we relate something seen
to the unseen something having
similarity;
but what is God-like?
who is God-like?
truth?
honesty?
nobility?
truthful, honest, noble man or woman?
Is God man or woman?
We pray to the dumb images of Gods and Goddess,
but they don’t speak to us;
we see Godliness in them,
but they don’t see humanity in us;
just praying to Gods and Goddesses,
we cannot cheat Them;
God created us in His image,
but are we not more hideous than beasts?
