KARNA

K. B. Sitaramayya

For right reasons he did what was wrong,

A noble heart, he served ignoble ends,

Open-handed he had a closed mind,

The Lord’s words he ignored on moral grounds

Which tragic hero on Greek or English stage

Could surpass this son of the Sun,

Forsaken by his mother at his birth

And betrayed at the end by the very Earth?
