Downslide
Dr. J. Bhagyalakshmi
I was jolted and shaken
Fear gripped me
And my senses numbed
It was a downslide
No stopping,
No grip, no support
I tried in vain
To hold on to a shrub here
Or a stone there
But they tumbled along with me
There was an abyss
My fall was certain
I closed my eyes in total surrender
When I came to my senses
It was a bed of roses
Soft and nestling
And surrounded by angels
With bright smiles
And haloes around their heads
“Am I in heaven?” I whispered
In ecstasy.
“No” said the angelic voice.
“Nothing to fear, I am with you.”
“Are you my angel?” I asked.
“No, I am your nurse,” said the voice.
