CURRYLEAF – LIVES

V. Lalithakumari

It is a spice much sought after

To make our food full flavoury

Though a neem, this leaf takes after

It’s a must for every curry.

There are men who are at the hub,

To others’ needs gladly cater

Their own interests oft disturb

To keep afloat joy and laughter

The curry leaf deemed a dearie

Till its savor it gives the dish

In th’ plate it makes them aweary

Better it were not there, they wish.

Can such treatment be called proper?

Should service earn so poor a prize?

Yet some muses their views offer

That all is well, right and wise.

The curry leaf can feel content

It has passed on its innate scent;

Those who serve have lives nobly spent.

Helping others with their talent.
