A SONG OF TRIBUTE

To Sachivothama Dr. C. P. Ramaswami Iyer

N. JAGANNATHAN

How high you stand

Like Himalayas of our land,

An angel in your look

A giant in actions you partook!

Are you from sordid earth

To achieve deeds of many a birth,

All of a mighty stature

In many a field with lustre?

You were a gem of lawyer

Blossomed into an administrator

And were a treble Vice-Chancellor

And a double Round Tabler.

Humans love and seek power,

But power loved to seek your bower,

A symbol of humanity and patience.

So you led us in the League of Nations.

Dams and industries were your hallmark,

Mettur, Pykara, etc., of high watermark;

Blessed us with light and agriculture,

A pride for a colossus to venture.

What love in your heart you nursed!

You threw open temples to the depressed,

Removed capital punishment in your land,

And brought reforms of immortal brand.

Languagc fails to describe your charity.

You wept for the depressed brethren in poverty.

With holy tears you assigned Benevolent Fund,

And You live an immortal and dear friend.
