ACT OF GOD
Pronab Kumar Majumder
Like millions of eyeless enraged cobras
Waves of the Bay raising fangs
Thirty feet high
Galloped to gulp the shore beyond
Towns and villages drowned in waters
Struggled for life in vain
In this massacre no saviour in sight
Is this calamity an “Act of God”?
Atonement
The bay receded calmly
Leaving countless dead
Why the Bay birthed and provoked
The super cyclone to take its toll?
Did God avenge the man,
His creation?
In the flame of community pyres
Humanity doing atonement
Not knowing what sins they committed.
