ABATTOIR

Yogesh G. Nair

The crowd is busy

bargaining

and having his share

of liver, or flesh,

amidst the flies

blood and stinking smell.

I stand

atop the highest building

of this city, and watch

dying river, stinking lanes

crowded roads

with fleet of foreign cars

and dignified men.

Many come and go.

grabbing what they need

struggling amidst,

the sick and the poor

the good and the bad

leaving the city

in its present state.
